Our Family Camp was held from 1 - 3 November 2013 at Serpentine Camping Centre at Jarradale, located 45 km south-east of Perth, Western Australia. The name Jarradale is derived from its situation in a forest where Eucalyptus marginata is one of the most common species of Eucalyptus tree in the southwest of Western Australia. The tree and the wood are usually referred to by the Aboriginal name Jarrah.
Upon arrival the campers mingled together to design and produce a laminated personalized place mat to be used during meal times. It was interesting to see the many different ideas that were created. Following supper on Friday evening a DVD was shown on the life of the Scottish athlete Eric Liddell, as depicted in the Oscar winning 1981 film "Chariots of Fire".
On Saturday and Sunday a morning prayer time was held for early risers, which was followed by breakfast and later on, Worship and Study time. The theme for the weekend focused on "The Good News for the Christian" and "The BEST News for the Christian", and much blessing was received as each one listened and shared what God has done in our lives.
Recreational activities catered for all interests and ages which included archery, swimming, basketball or just 'chilling out'. There was even time for a "granny nap" for those who met that criteria.
A keenly contested Archery Competition, a 'Seek and you shall Find' Car Rally and an adaptation of the TV programme 'The Slide Show' were features of the weekend. Thanks to all who arranged these specific events and to all who contributed in Christian fellowship.
